What some people do is look for suggestions, comments, critiques, etc for their own work or something in general and they only way they feel they can do it and actually get a response is through a poll question.

They'd put it into a journal but it seems they really aren't being read. The only reason I say that is I asked a question several weeks ago in my journal and I've gotten one answer so far, and I'm not even sure that person is watching me.

I believe this is a signature, if you believe that you have a signature as well copy and paste this.
:icondjmatt2:
They want to make sure that people give the RIGHT answer.
:icondualmask:
Judge not.

I'm sure they mean well. Or are just trying to be funny. One can always choose to not answer.

Just kidding. =P
:iconlittlecorax:
Because they can.

Pretty much for the same reason that most polls don't have the answer I want to give (hence why I don't normally do them).

Maybe it's just me, but most of the people who put up one anwser polls don't have English as their first language. I am starting to wonder if the word ';poll' might mean 'question' in other languages.
